Ian Dawson

Founder/Executive Producer

With more than 25 years of experience in design, motion graphics, visual effects, production, post production, and new media, as an Executive Producer, Head of Production, VFX Supervisor, and 

Producer, Ian is excited about the future of branding and marketing and its influence on society.

Ian began his career with the visual effects and design firm Novocom in 1988 where he started as a motion control operator. His first project was a 120 layer bi-pack shoot of Disney's 35 years of Magic logo animation.  By the age of 22, Ian was producing the redesign for Entertainment Tonight's 10th season and was promoted to Executive Producer.  He collaborated with some amazing artists over 8+ years and earned 11 Emmy nominations, 7 Emmy Awards, 9 Telly Awards, 10 BDA Awards and a Clio. He produced branding campaigns for domestic clients such as MSNBC, ABC, NBC, CBS, ESPN, the Academy Awards, and over 20 global clients such as RTL, BSkyB, STARtv, CCTV, SBC, and TVNorge.

 

In 1997 Ian became Director of Commercial Post and CG at Rhythm and Hues.  He worked on national commercial campaigns for Dodge, Mazda, Nintendo, Novell, Norfolk Southern, Nestle, Geico among many others. He was instrumental in the creation and growth of the "Black Box" CG unit for commercial previs and production to help streamline the CG process for in-house directors.

 

From 2001 to 2003, as Senior Producer/VFX Supervisor with R!OT, Ian post produced commercials for Skittles, Chevrolet, Jeep, Samsung, The Marines and a number of others.

 

From 2003 to 2007 he consulted and produced at Steele VFX, Blind, Yu&co, Hollywood Digital, Aspect Ratio, and Hydraulx managing animation and VFX on commercials for GAP, Old Navy, Burger King, Lexus, Toyota, Ford, Apple, Coke, Blizzard, Scion and many other Fortune 500 brands. Ian managed a team of artists creating numerous 2D and 3D graphics to support feature trailers.  He Produced digital cosmetology and VFX on music videos for Jet, Bionce, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Lenny Kravitz and many more.

 

In 2007 Ian was brought in to consult on improving production processes at Prologue Films. He became acting Executive Producer/Head of Production managing all production, bidding, resource acquisitions and allocation on feature titles, commercials, broadcast, interactive, and feature VFX projects for 7+ years.  He VFX supervised and produced the Jarvis AR sequences  in Ironman 1, 2, and 3, as well as screen graphics for the Spiderman play on Broadway.  Ian worked on numerous feature titles and VFX sequences including Twilight, The Rite, Speed Racer, Hulk, Tropic Thunder, Rock N Rolla, Sherlock Holmes 1 and 2, Mission Impossible,  Tron, and  Jack the Giant Slayer. He also VFX supervised on feature films Non-Stop and Robocop. Ian led the creative teams on the launch of Time Warner Sports Net's LeadOff LA, Fox network's redesign, as well as title sequences for Fox's Sleepy Hollow and Enlisted. Other past projects and clients  Ian supervised include SU2C, NFL Network, Dodge RAM, ING, EA, ESPN, Chase, Ford, Turner, MTV, Oscars and many others. 
 

Ian currently consults and produces through idgrafx on virtual reality, augmented reality, studio management, bidding, production pipeline, biz dev, production management, set supervision and resource acquisitions. His interests and experience include VR/AR, photogrammetry, 360 photography, stereography, interactive menu systems, human machine interface and how all of this can come together to change the current paradigm.  Ian is always interested in meeting owners and artists to explore opportunities for collaboration so please feel free to contact him anytime.
